Actress Mary Njoku has raised concerns about the growing popularity of gentle parenting, questioning its effectiveness in correcting children’s behaviour.
In a post shared on Instagram, the actress expressed doubt about the idea of constantly reasoning with children, noting that such an approach may not produce lasting behavioural change.
Njoku argued that children, whose cognitive development is still ongoing, may not always respond to calm explanations in the way parents expect. She suggested that repeated attempts to negotiate with them often yield limited results.
Using a personal example, she described moments where she calmly explained rules to her children, only to feel as though the message did not have a lasting impact.
Her comments highlighted a broader parenting debate between those who support gentle, empathetic communication and others who believe a more firm or structured approach is necessary for discipline.
The actress’s remarks have since sparked conversations among parents and social media users, many of whom continue to share differing opinions on how best to raise and discipline children in modern households.
