Nigeria’s D’Tigers kept their 2027 FIBA World Cup qualification hopes alive with a narrow 84–81 win over Tunisia on Thursday in Luanda, Angola.
The result marked a second win in the qualifying campaign for Nigeria, who had earlier suffered two defeats in the previous window before bouncing back under new head coach David Fizdale.
Tunisia had beaten Nigeria 88–78 after overtime in their first Group C meeting in November, but the D’Tigers responded in the reverse fixture with a tightly contested performance.
Nigeria opened strongly, taking the first quarter 23–21, while Tunisia recovered to win the second 23–20, leaving both sides level at halftime.
After the break, the D’Tigers edged ahead by taking the third quarter 21–19 and then held firm in a tense final stretch, winning the fourth quarter 20–18 to seal the victory.
The win lifts Nigeria to third place in the group on six points, level with Tunisia but two points behind leaders Guinea.
D’Tigers now face Guinea in their next fixture on Friday, with a win set to draw them level at the top of the standings and strengthen their qualification push.
