Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has said he was in the “wrong party” during his time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting he later found his political home in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the remarks on Friday at the inauguration of access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in the Karsana District of the Federal Capital Territory, marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
Responding to comments by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who described him as an “uncommon performer” during his PDP days, Akpabio urged APC leaders to disregard the remark, saying it referred to a past political era.
He said he had served more than seven years as governor of Akwa Ibom State before the APC was formed in 2014, adding that he later aligned with what he described as a “progressive” platform.
Akpabio also described the PDP as fragmented, jokingly referring to Wike as the “leader of a winning faction” of the opposition party, while praising his performance as Rivers State governor.
