Nigerian superstar Davido has revealed plans to regain ownership of his music masters from his international record label, Sony Music, before stepping away from active music.
The Afrobeats artiste made the disclosure during an appearance on The Long Form podcast, where he spoke extensively about ownership and long-term financial planning in the music business.
Davido stressed that retaining control of creative work is a priority for him, noting that artists must pay close attention to the business structures behind their careers.
According to him, he intends to purchase back his masters and ensure that future royalties from his catalogue can be passed down to his children as part of his legacy.
“I have a good music contract. But the most important thing is ownership. I plan to get my masters back from Sony soon,” he said.
He added that securing ownership would allow him to structure his music earnings in a way that benefits his family even after retirement, describing it as a key part of his long-term plan.
Davido also urged artists to take the business side of music seriously, noting that financial control is just as important as creative success in the industry.
