Nigerian music star Davido has found himself at the center of an online dispute following a post in which he expressed concern about the state of affairs in Nigeria.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, acknowledged in the post that entertainers, including himself, have not been vocal enough on issues affecting citizens. He described the country’s situation as deeply troubling and called for greater engagement from public figures.
“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” he wrote.
The statement quickly attracted criticism from a social media user identified as Princess Luna, who accused the singer of being insincere and described his comments as “performative.” The response escalated into a heated exchange online.
Davido replied by rejecting claims linking him to any political group, specifically denying association with a referenced “City Boy” group. He also defended his history of speaking out publicly on national issues, insisting he has previously faced backlash for doing so.
He referenced past interviews where he criticised government actions and said he continues to raise concerns both privately and publicly.
“I no dey part of any City Boy group… I call and complain to him all the time,” he said, adding that he has maintained long-standing relationships across political circles without being affiliated.
The exchange has since generated widespread reactions on social media, reigniting debate over the role of entertainers in political and social commentary in Nigeria.
