Nigerian actor and media personality Tobi Bakre has criticised gender bias in the entertainment industry, stressing that women play a crucial role in its growth and creative development.
He made the remarks during an appearance on the Mentality podcast hosted by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, where he discussed professionalism, collaboration, and industry dynamics.
Bakre stated that individuals who are unwilling to work with women may not be ready for meaningful progress in their careers. According to him, excluding women from professional spaces limits creativity and slows down growth.
The actor noted that his own experience in Nollywood has been shaped largely through collaboration with women, adding that he does not consider gender when choosing who to work with.
He explained that his focus has always been on efficiency and delivering results, rather than personal biases or industry stereotypes.
“For me, work is work… I don’t see gender,” he said, adding that many of the women he has worked with have demonstrated strong professionalism and a shared commitment to productivity.
Bakre further praised the collaborative attitude of many female colleagues in the industry, saying they often approach projects without ego and with a strong focus on execution.
His comments have sparked conversations online about inclusivity and the role of women in shaping Nigeria’s growing film and entertainment industry.
