A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Sani, has accused Nyesom Wike of using his office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to intimidate political opponents amid the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
Speaking during The Morning Show on Thursday, Sani alleged that Wike had repeatedly deployed government instruments to frustrate meetings organised by rival factions within the PDP.
He described the alleged actions as “the last kick of a dying horse,” insisting that his faction remained unshaken and continued to regard itself as the legitimate leadership bloc within the party.
Sani said his group was waiting for the Certified True Copy of the recent Supreme Court judgment, which he believes will shape the next phase of the leadership battle rocking the opposition party.
According to him, Wike was fully aware of venues where meetings involving his faction had been taking place but had not succeeded in shutting them down.
The PDP chieftain also alleged that similar tactics were used during the tenure of acting National Chairman Umar Damagum whenever meetings considered unfavourable to Wike’s camp were scheduled.
“He knows where we have been holding meetings. He knows the place, and he has not seen it off yet. He can’t,” Sani said during the interview.
He further alleged that party offices, including the PDP national secretariat and the Legacy House annex office, had previously been sealed over issues such as unpaid ground rent and tenement rates whenever internal disagreements intensified.
Sani maintained that the actions would not weaken his faction’s resolve, adding that the group would continue its activities pending the release of the Supreme Court judgment’s Certified True Copy.
The leadership crisis within the PDP has continued to deepen ahead of future political realignments, with rival blocs battling for control of the party’s structure and decision-making process.
