South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has removed Lagos from the itinerary of her upcoming APOP World Tour, raising questions over the status of the previously announced Nigerian concert.
A review of the singer’s official tour schedule on Friday showed that the Lagos performance, which had been slated for December 22, no longer appears among the listed tour dates.
The revised itinerary retains stops across Europe, North America and South Africa, but omits Nigeria entirely.
Earlier this week, Lagos had been announced as the only Nigerian destination on the tour before the final shows scheduled for Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.
The development comes days after the announcement of the Lagos concert sparked intense debate on social media.
Several Nigerians, including media personality Do2dtun and social media activist VeryDarkMan, had called for a boycott of the show, citing renewed xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.
Supporters of the boycott argued that South African artistes should not perform in Nigeria while concerns over the attacks remain unresolved. Others, however, maintained that entertainers should not be blamed for political or social tensions between the two countries.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Tyla nor her management had explained why the Lagos date was removed from the tour schedule.
Concert promoters have also not issued any statement confirming whether the show has been cancelled, postponed or rescheduled.
The absence of an official explanation has left fans awaiting clarification on whether Tyla will still perform in Nigeria at a later date.
