Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has received commendation following his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the development was described as a significant milestone for Nigeria, particularly at a time when the United Nations is undergoing key financial and institutional reforms.
The President said Ibrahim’s emergence reflects his extensive experience in public service, diplomacy, and governance, noting his contributions as a former member of the Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations.
He added that Ibrahim’s background in law, international taxation, and business administration positions him to provide strong leadership in managing global budgetary and administrative responsibilities at the UN.
Tinubu expressed confidence that the Nigerian envoy would justify the trust placed in him by the international community and represent the country effectively in his new role.
He also congratulated Ibrahim on what he described as a “remarkable achievement,” saying Nigeria remains proud of his elevation within the United Nations system.
The Fifth Committee of the UN General Assembly is responsible for budgetary and administrative matters, including funding for peacekeeping operations, oversight of internal administration, and negotiations on financial reforms within the global body.
