A suspected gas leak has left several students of Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, hospitalised, raising fresh concerns over recurring emissions in the community.
The incident occurred during school hours on Wednesday when a foul odour reportedly spread across the school, causing breathing difficulties and discomfort among students and staff.
The affected students were taken to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, for treatment, although authorities have yet to confirm the number of victims.
Confirming the incident, Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, said investigations were underway to determine the source of the emission.
According to him, the latest incident is the third reported case of a suspected gas leak in the community within the last two months.
He assured residents that the government would issue an official statement once findings from the ongoing investigation are concluded.
