ODM acting Secretary General Catherine Omanyo says the party has women capable of serving in President William Ruto’s Cabinet should he carry out a reshuffle within the next four months.
Omanyo welcomed Tuesday’s High Court ruling declaring the current Cabinet unconstitutional for failing to meet the two-thirds gender rule, a decision that gives the President 120 days to correct the imbalance.
To comply with the constitutional threshold, the President may be required to replace at least two male Cabinet secretaries with women. ODM, which emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the last Cabinet reshuffle, now appears to be eyeing the openings, as signalled by Omanyo, who also serves as Busia Woman Representative.
