Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a return to South African side Chippa United, five months after parting ways with the club by mutual consent. The Premier Soccer League outfit confirmed his comeback on Sunday through a post on its official X account ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club wrote. “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
The 30-year-old had been without competitive football since leaving Chippa United in February 2026. At the time, the club announced that it had approved his request to leave after both parties agreed to end their relationship. “Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the club said, while thanking the Nigerian international for his commitment and professionalism during his first spell.
Nwabali joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and rose to national prominence with his standout performances for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished as runners-up. His spell away from the South African club, without securing a move elsewhere, also saw him lose his place in the team for several matches before his return.
