Revenue agency warns Nigerians against fake infographic, urges reliance on official channels….
The Nigeria Revenue Service has dismissed as false a viral claim suggesting that the Federal Government plans to introduce a new vehicle tax starting July 1.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dare Adekambi, on behalf of the agency’s chairman, Zach Adedeji, the service described the circulating infographic as misleading and without any official backing.
According to the agency, the graphic whose source could not be identified directed owners of private, commercial, and corporate vehicles to pay an unspecified tax through online platforms, banks, or other authorised channels.
Adekambi noted that the material also attempted to lend credibility to the claim by referencing a government website. However, he clarified that the link provided does not belong to the agency, stressing that the official platform of the NRS remains its verified website.
He stated unequivocally that no new vehicle tax has been introduced by the Federal Government, urging Nigerians to disregard the message entirely.
“The information did not originate from the service or any arm of government,” he said, warning that such fabricated content is designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion.
The NRS further advised citizens to rely only on verified communication channels for updates on tax policies and government directives. It encouraged the public to follow its official platforms for accurate and timely information.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation online, with authorities increasingly calling for vigilance as false claims continue to circulate across digital platforms.
