Nigeria’s fight against insecurity requires sustained funding and the timely release of budgeted resources to the military, according to House Deputy Spokesperson, Philip Agbese
He made the call in Abuja on Monday while speaking with journalists, stressing that consistent financial support remains key to strengthening security operations across the country.
He also commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, for what he described as strategic and focused leadership in tackling insecurity.
According to him, the Armed Forces have recorded notable progress in counter-insurgency operations, including the disruption of criminal networks and recovery of territories previously held by non-state actors.
However, he warned that sustaining these gains depends on the speed and consistency of funding releases.
“Our military is doing an extraordinary job under very demanding conditions. However, no matter how committed and professional our troops are, military operations require consistent funding, timely releases, and access to modern equipment”, he said.
He also stressed that delays in budget implementation could affect logistics and operational efficiency.
“Appropriations alone are not enough. What matters is the speed and consistency of releases. Delays in funding can slow down operations and give criminal elements breathing space”, he warned.
Agbese described defence funding as a critical investment in national stability, urging relevant institutions to improve efficiency in financial processes linked to security operations.
He further called on Nigerians to support the military through cooperation and credible intelligence sharing.
“This is a fight we can win. With the right support, leadership, and a united national effort, we will see a turning point in our security landscape”, he added.
Agbese expressed confidence that with stronger funding support, improved coordination, and sustained commitment from security agencies, Nigeria could record more decisive gains in its fight against insecurity.
