Company disowns impostors posing as agents, insists no refinery equipment or scrap is up for sale….
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has issued a strong warning to the public, dismissing widespread claims that it is selling off refinery scrap materials, equipment, or components.
In a statement released Friday in Abuja, the company described the reports as entirely false and misleading, stressing that no such sales process is currently underway. The announcement, signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, comes amid rising concerns over individuals allegedly using the company’s name to lure unsuspecting buyers.
According to the statement, NNPC has not approved or initiated any form of bidding process, tender, or expression of interest related to the disposal of refinery assets. The company emphasized that it has not authorized any person or group to act on its behalf in selling so-called scrap materials or equipment.
It further cautioned that individuals presenting themselves as agents or representatives of NNPC in such transactions are operating illegally and should not be trusted. These actors, the company warned, are deliberately attempting to deceive members of the public for personal gain.
NNPC urged businesses, investors, and the general public to remain vigilant and to disregard any offers or solicitations tied to such claims. It reiterated that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow due process, be transparently handled, and communicated through its official channels in line with regulatory requirements.
The company also encouraged anyone approached with these fraudulent offers to report the matter to law enforcement authorities.
Reaffirming its stance, NNPC stated that it remains committed to accountability, transparency, and the proper management of Nigeria’s energy resources while taking a firm stand against attempts to exploit its reputation for fraudulent activities.
