Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi has stirred controversy after appearing to mock Senegal on social media following their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Senegal were knocked out of the Round of 32 after surrendering a two-goal lead in a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Belgium on Wednesday.
Chibi, who was left out of Morocco’s 2026 squad by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, reacted on Instagram by sharing a clip of the match and posting the caption: “go and cry now.”
The post is believed to be linked to lingering tensions between both nations following the disputed 2026 Africa Cup of Nations final, where Senegal initially walked off in protest over a disallowed goal and VAR decision before later returning to the pitch.
Although Senegal went on to win the match after extra time, they were later stripped of the title, with Morocco initially awarded the championship pending an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The incident has further intensified the rivalry between both sides, with Morocco progressing to the Round of 16 after a penalty shootout win over the Netherlands, while Senegal exit the tournament in disappointment.
