The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commended the Federal Government for inaugurating the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC), following the enactment of the National Anti-Doping Act 2025.
The federation said the inauguration of the board marks another step in strengthening Nigeria’s anti-doping framework and aligns with the country’s obligations under the World Anti-Doping Code.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said the development reflects the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to improving sports governance and protecting the integrity of Nigerian sports.
He said the inauguration of the Technical Board of the NADC represents a milestone in the country’s sports administration, noting that doping violations have negatively affected Nigeria’s image over the years.
According to Sanusi, the board is expected to strengthen accountability in anti-doping efforts and help restore Nigeria’s reputation as a country with zero tolerance for doping.
The NFF also congratulated the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the NADC, Alhaji Mainasara Illo, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Centre.
The federation said Illo’s experience in organising major sporting events, including the 2003 All-Africa Games and the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria, places him in a strong position to drive the Centre’s mandate.
It added that the responsibilities of educating athletes and stakeholders, preventing doping violations, protecting clean athletes and enforcing anti-doping regulations fall within his areas of competence.
The NFF also congratulated the Super Eagles’ medical doctor, Dr Ibrahim Gyaran, on his appointment to the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre.
