A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Faith Alayande, has died after falling from the rooftop of a hostel at the institution’s Lagos campus.
The incident occurred at about 4am on Friday, August 7, 2026, while Alayande was undergoing an externship programme at the Lagos campus.
In a statement on Monday, Aderonke Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration of the Nigerian Law School, said preliminary findings indicated that the student sustained injuries from the fall and later died.
Osho said the school had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident in collaboration with the relevant authorities.
The management expressed condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by her death.
It also appealed to the public and media to respect the family’s request for privacy as they mourned their daughter.
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the incident.
According to the police, the hostel matron reported that the student had been found unresponsive on the premises.
Police operatives visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue.
The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Nigerian Law School said it remained committed to the safety and wellbeing of its students and staff.
