Security concerns and regulatory violations have led the Kogi State Government to shut down the Daarul Kitab Islamic Training Centre in Zariagi, Adavi Local Government Area.
The closure follows the April 26 attack on the school by unidentified gunmen who abducted 23 pupils, including the wife of the proprietor.
All victims have since been rescued in a coordinated operation involving the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Kogi State Police Command, and other security agencies.
The school was sealed on Friday by the Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, who led officials from the ministry to the facility.
He directed the proprietor to immediately report to the ministry, stating that the institution will remain closed until all regulatory requirements for establishment and operation are fulfilled.
The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all schools in the state meet approved standards and provide a safe environment for teaching and learning.
He stressed that compliance with regulations is mandatory, adding that the state would not allow any institution to operate outside established guidelines.
Although the proprietor had reportedly started the registration process, the commissioner noted that the school ought not to have commenced operations before receiving approval.
