Emergency teams have been deployed after a Cessna aircraft crashed outside Juba, South Sudan, leaving at least 14 people, including the pilot, reportedly dead.
According to multiple reports, those on board included two Kenyan nationals, while the remaining passengers were said to be South Sudanese citizens.
South Sudan’s civil aviation authority said preliminary findings suggest the aircraft may have gone down due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions at the time of the crash.
The authority also confirmed that a response team had been dispatched to the crash site, located about 20 kilometres outside the capital, Juba, to assess the situation, gather information, and support ongoing emergency operations.
Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media showed the wreckage of the aircraft engulfed in flames, with the surrounding terrain appearing mountainous and shrouded in mist.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the crash.
