Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has addressed criticism surrounding his appearance at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention, where he performed despite ongoing public concerns over insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
The artiste came under heavy scrutiny following the performance, with critics accusing him of endorsing a political gathering at a time when many Nigerians expect public figures to take stronger stances on governance issues. Some social media users also questioned his decision to entertain at a partisan event.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince clarified that his participation was not politically motivated. He explained that he accepted the booking because of a close personal relationship with the APC National Chairman.
According to him, the invitation came through his uncle, whom he identified as Nentawe Yilwatda, the current APC National Chairman. Ice Prince stressed that the connection is familial rather than professional, noting that this influenced his decision to perform at the event.
“Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” he said during the interview.
The clarification comes days after the performance sparked widespread debate online, with fans and critics divided over whether entertainers should participate in politically affiliated events.
As of now, the conversation continues across social media platforms, with many awaiting further reactions from both the artiste and his critics.
