Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has stated that referees must manage situations where players engage in physical holding during set-piece situations.
His comments came in response to the VAR controversy in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.
Leandro Trossard’s late strike secured the victory, but the match also featured a disputed moment when Calum Wilson had a goal disallowed.
The effort was initially awarded on the pitch before the referee was asked to consult the on-field monitor, after which the decision was overturned. The result moved Arsenal five points ahead of Manchester City with two matches remaining.
When asked about the incident, Guardiola said: “It’s a question for the referees…”
He also stressed that City’s attention had shifted to their next Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace, adding: “Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace, and thinking about what we have to do.”
