Ayra Starr’s sister, Aderibigbe Hannah, popularly known as Salt the DJ, has alleged that suspected area boys damaged her car after mistaking her for the Afrobeats singer, adding to growing concerns over the activities of suspected hoodlums targeting motorists in parts of Lagos.
She disclosed the incident on social media while reacting to complaints about alleged harassment and extortion of motorists by area boys in the state. According to her, the incident occurred the previous day, with the suspects repeatedly calling out Ayra Starr’s name because they believed she was the singer.
Recounting the experience, she wrote, “They damaged my car yesterday and honestly it was so sad !!! And the fact that they kept shouting Ayrastarr cause they thought I was her 😭😭 that made it even worse.”
Salt the DJ made the revelation while responding to a post highlighting complaints about motorists allegedly being intimidated by area boys in Lagos.
The post read, “THIS HAS TO STOP 🛑 Imagine, this is what happens now in Lagos once you drive a nice car. These Agberos/ Area Boys won’t let you go except you give them money. If you don’t give them, them might stone your car and break something. So basically, it’s by force. This is not good. How can this be controlled cause it’s getting out of hand?”
Her account follows similar complaints by popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, alleged that suspected hoodlums stole mobile phones belonging to some guests at his traditional wedding in Lagos.
Speaking during a TikTok livestream, Peller said he had been replacing some of the stolen phones and blamed the incidents on suspected agberos who allegedly crowded the venue.
He said, “Agbero don occupy Lagos. No be small. Agbero plenty pass guests wey come to my wedding. Agbero plenty outside. People wey come say dem dey snatch their phones. Una know how many phone I don pay for?”
Other public figures, including actress Lilian Afegbai, comedian Sirbalo and reality TV star Phyna, have also previously shared concerns over the activities of suspected area boys in parts of Lagos.
