Nigerian singer Asake has opened up about his decision to step away from professional dancing, citing financial limitations as the main reason for his career shift.
Speaking in an interview with African Voices, the “Omo Ope” hitmaker said he still has a deep passion for dance but realised it could not provide the level of income he aspired to earn.
“I love dancing so much… but I had to leave it because of my love for money. I know the type of money I want dancing can’t give me,” he said.
Before rising to fame as a musician, Asake built a following through dance performances, gaining visibility online for his energetic routines. However, he later transitioned fully into music, a move that has significantly elevated his profile in the entertainment industry.
Since making the switch, the singer has released several successful tracks, including “Lonely At The Top,” establishing himself as one of the notable figures in Nigeria’s music scene.
Despite his focus on music, Asake noted that dancing remains part of his life, even if no longer pursued as a primary career.
He also reiterated his continued respect and loyalty to Olamide, his former label boss, amid past speculation about a possible split.
