Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has revealed his plan to reduce the number of centre-backs in his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference before the club’s pre-season meeting with Tottenham on Saturday, Alonso said he wants to work with four or five senior defenders in the position.
The Blues currently have 10 centre-backs following the arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in a deal worth around £51 million.
Sky Sports reports that Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi are among the defenders who could leave Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea’s current centre-back options include Josh Acheampong, Aaron Anselmino, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Maxence Lacroix, Mamadou Sarr and Tosin Adarabioyo.
