Zambia women’s national team head coach Nora Häuptle has questioned the fairness of CAF’s tie-break regulations following her side’s elimination from the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Copper Queens were knocked out despite securing a 2-1 victory over Malawi on Wednesday, after finishing level on six points with Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Malawi.
CAF’s head-to-head criteria among the three teams determined the final standings, with Nigeria and Malawi advancing after scoring four and three goals respectively in their direct encounters, while Zambia managed two.
“We scored the most goals in this group, and we conceded the least goals,” Häuptle said, as quoted by Lusaka Times.
“Sometimes I’m not sure if we do the right things with this kind of regulations because it feels completely weird that we are out.”
