Platform says existing creators will receive their final revenue-sharing payout in September as applications open for a new programme focused on original content……
X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is ending its current Revenue Sharing programme and replacing it with a new system designed to reward creators for producing original content and driving meaningful conversations on the platform.
The company announced the change on Friday, saying the existing programme will officially end on September 7, 2026.
Creators currently enrolled in Revenue Sharing will continue earning under the existing arrangement until the programme closes, with their final payout scheduled for September 11.
The announcement was made by the X Creators Team, which said the new Original Content Rewards Program would provide a new way for eligible creators to earn money on the platform.
“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program a new way for creators to earn on X by sharing original content and contributing meaningfully to the conversation,” the company said.
Applications for the new rewards programme will open on September 8, one day after the existing Revenue Sharing programme ends.
X said creators will be able to determine whether they qualify by checking the Creator Studio, where an Original Content Rewards section will provide information about eligibility.
Creators who have already completed identity verification and linked a valid payment method will not be required to go through those steps again, according to the company.
Once approved, eligible creators will begin earning under the new programme and will be subject to its terms and conditions.
X did not disclose in its announcement exactly how payouts under the new system will be calculated or how the reward structure will differ from the outgoing Revenue Sharing programme.
The platform said the change reflects its desire to place greater value on creators whose work brings unique perspectives and useful information to the platform.
X highlighted several types of content it considers central to the platform, including breaking news, expert analysis, personal experiences, creative work and cultural commentary.
“X has always been powered by people who share something only they can: breaking news, expert insights, unique experiences, creativity, and commentary that moves culture forward,” the company said.
“We want to reward the people who make X worth opening every day, so we’re evolving how creators earn here.”
The transition means creators currently dependent on X’s Revenue Sharing programme will have to move to the new system if they want to continue earning from the platform.
For creators, the key dates are September 7, when Revenue Sharing ends, September 8, when applications for the new programme open, and September 11, when the final payout under the old system is expected to be issued.
