Music executive and talent manager Ubi Franklin has advised young men against having children with different women, describing it as one of the biggest mistakes they can make.
Franklin shared the advice in an episode of his podcast, Talks with Ubi Franklin, released on Wednesday, saying he was speaking from personal experience in the hope that others would learn from his journey.
Addressing his audience, he said he wanted to have an honest conversation with younger men about the long-term consequences of their choices.
“Hello, my young brothers, this is for you. My name is Ubi Franklin, and I want to have a conversation with you,” he said.
According to Franklin, the decision to have children with multiple partners can create lasting emotional challenges that are often more difficult to manage than the financial responsibilities of raising children.
“One of the worst decisions you can ever make is to have kids with different women. I’ll tell you, I’m one of those people who are in it, and we can tell you that no matter the money that you think you have, no matter what you think you’re doing, trust me, that should never be a decision you’re going to make in your life,” he said.
The talent manager explained that while providing for children may be manageable, maintaining healthy relationships with multiple co-parents can become emotionally exhausting.
“Some of us are lucky enough that God has given us some good money to be able to take care of them, but taking care of them is not the problem. It’s managing the emotions of the adults who are their mothers,” he added.
Franklin also cautioned against becoming entangled in what is commonly referred to as “baby mama drama,” warning that not everyone has the capacity to navigate such situations successfully.
“Please and please, no matter the money you have, no matter the life you want to live, let baby mama drama not be part of it, because for some of us, we survived it, but some of you might not be able to survive it,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal life, Franklin admitted there are decisions he wishes he had made differently.
“Some people always say Ubi is a cat with nine lives, and I always say yes, but I don’t know how many lives I have lived. One thing is very important: I wish that some things that have happened in my life, and this is one of them, I wish that I had taken a different road on it,” he said.
Despite his regrets, Franklin described children as one of life’s greatest blessings and encouraged young men to build stable families whenever possible.
“Children are the best things that we can ever have in our lives. If you can do anything possible in your life, just have all of them in one place,” he said.
He added that his podcast would continue to focus on sharing lessons from his personal experiences, with the aim of helping listeners make more informed life decisions.
