U.S president says Tehran requested further negotiations as tensions remain high following renewed exchanges of fire between both sides…..
United States President Donald Trump has confirmed that Washington will continue negotiations with Iran but warned that the ceasefire between both countries has officially ended.
Trump made the statement on Friday through his Truth Social platform, saying Tehran had requested further discussions and that the US had agreed to engage.
“Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!” Trump wrote.
The announcement comes amid renewed hostilities between the two countries after a ceasefire agreement that halted weeks of intense fighting failed to prevent continued military confrontations.
Speaking earlier in Ankara, Trump said the April 8 ceasefire, which brought an end to a period of direct warfare, was no longer in effect. He also criticised Iranian officials using strong language and accused Tehran of failing to maintain the truce.
The US president had previously said he intended to consult with businessman and negotiator Steve Witkoff as well as his son-in-law Jared Kushner, both of whom have been involved in diplomatic contacts with Iranian officials.
However, Trump maintained that the responsibility for returning to negotiations rests with Tehran.
Tensions between the two countries have escalated in recent days, with both sides engaging in fresh military exchanges.
Iran has targeted commercial vessels, while the United States has responded with strikes. Tehran has also carried out attacks against American interests in parts of the Middle East using drones and missiles.
Despite the renewed clashes, Trump’s latest comments indicate that diplomatic channels remain open, even as both countries continue to trade accusations and military actions.
