In a move aimed at decentralising governance, Borno Governor Babagana Zulum has taken his official activities to Biu, bringing government closer to residents of Southern Borno.
Zulum performed his official duties from the Zonal Department of Monitoring, Evaluation and Special Projects office in Biu, marking the first time the facility has been used as an operational base since its establishment in 2022.
The office was created to strengthen public service delivery, improve accountability and enhance monitoring of government projects across Southern Borno, with similar centres in Monguno and Bama serving other senatorial districts.
While in Biu, the governor met with security commanders, including the Sector 2 Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Edet Effiong, to review strategies for sustaining progress in counter-insurgency operations.
The governor, who is on a working tour of Southern Borno, has continued to emphasise grassroots engagement by visiting communities and inspecting projects across the state’s 27 local government areas.
During the visit, Zulum launched agricultural support initiatives, including subsidised fertiliser, farm inputs and equipment for farmers.
He also announced the employment of 100 graduates from Biu Local Government Area and approved welfare support for NYSC members serving in the area, including additional assistance for nursing mothers and other officials.
