Criticism has been raised against President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its handling of worsening insecurity in the country, with allegations that political activities are being prioritised amid ongoing abductions.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said Nigeria is still awaiting the safe return of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, while the government appears focused on political activities.
He claimed that while affected families continue to endure uncertainty, Nigerians are being confronted with political gatherings, celebrations, and the distribution of vehicles to political allies.
Atiku also criticised the First Lady, alleging that her public engagements send the wrong signal at a time of national mourning over the abducted schoolchildren. He said the situation raises concerns about the government’s sensitivity to the plight of victims’ families, stressing that citizens expect urgency and compassion rather than political festivities.
According to him, mass kidnappings have become increasingly frequent under the current administration, yet responses have not matched the gravity of the crisis.
Atiku urged the government to prioritise securing the release of abducted persons, saying Nigerians need leadership and results rather than political displays.
