President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina, a computer engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Aina brings extensive experience in computer systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform, particularly in the area of examination management and institutional technology systems.
Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
He reportedly began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early exposure to national admissions processes and data-driven systems, an experience that influenced his later work in examination reform and digital transformation.
With over 15 years of professional experience, he has worked across the intersection of technology, policy, and governance, advising government institutions on system design, digital transition, and operational efficiency.
Aina, who is 39 years old and turns 40 in July, is expected to assume office as the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history. He will succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose second term ends on July 31, 2026. Oloyede was first appointed in 2016 and reappointed in 2021.
