Actress and media personality Temi Otedola has said she has no reservations about being described as a “nepo baby,” maintaining that recognising privilege does not diminish the value of personal hard work.
Speaking on a recent episode of The How Far Podcast alongside her husband, singer Mr Eazi, Temi shared her views on privilege, nepotism and the opportunities some people inherit through their family background.
According to her, privilege extends beyond fame or public recognition. She said it includes growing up in a financially stable home with access to education, food and a secure environment—advantages that many people do not enjoy.
Temi explained that nepotism, particularly in the entertainment industry, involves gaining opportunities through family connections. She used a hypothetical example, saying that if she and Mr Eazi had a child interested in music, they could easily introduce the child to a producer and finance a music video, giving them an advantage over others without similar access.
As the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, Temi said she sees no reason to deny the opportunities her background has provided. She argued that openly acknowledging those advantages is simply being honest.
She added that while she benefited from a head start in life, she has also worked to maximise the opportunities available to her. According to her, many people avoid admitting they are privileged because they fear it will undermine their achievements.
Mr Eazi echoed her views during the discussion, saying he has also enjoyed certain advantages created by the hard work of those who came before him. He noted that recognising those privileges does not erase the effort required to build a successful career.
