The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially declared a force majeure on the Ikeja West – Osogbo 330kV transmission line following a severe rainstorm that struck on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
During the storm, the transmission line tripped due to a fault that was detected approximately 14.9 kilometers from the Ikeja West (Ayobo) end of the line.
Subsequent inspections conducted by TCN maintenance crews, as contained in a statement by Ndidi Mbah, GM, Public Affairs, indicated that Tower No. 515 had collapsed, with the structure giving way at its midsection.
In response to the incident, TCN is actively mobilizing materials and personnel to facilitate the re-erection of the fallen tower. Meanwhile, the engineering team is working diligently to dismantle the affected tower.
“We are committed to restoring flexibility and redundancy in the power corridor,” a TCN spokesperson assured. “It is important to note that an alternative line remains operational, ensuring the continuous evacuation of bulk power to minimize disruptions.”
TCN has pledged to keep the public updated on the progress of the restoration work and will provide more information as it becomes available.
