Nollywood actress Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has said that onscreen kissing in films is strictly a professional requirement and should not be mistaken for personal intimacy or enjoyment.
She made the remarks during a recent interview with TVC, while responding to discussions within the film industry about actors’ experiences with kissing scenes on set.
According to her, film kisses are part of performance and storytelling, and actors are not expected to derive pleasure from them. She added that her approach is deliberately controlled to maintain professionalism during such scenes.
Soso explained that she avoids using her tongue during kissing scenes and ensures her mouth remains closed, saying she relies only on lip contact to make the action believable on screen.
She also noted that she is very conscious of physical boundaries on set and does not see onscreen kissing as something that should involve emotional or personal attachment.
In her view, actors who complain about not having “good kisses” in movies misunderstand the nature of the job, stressing that such scenes are executed as part of a performance rather than romantic experiences.
Her comments come amid ongoing conversations in Nollywood about intimacy on set, with some actors, including her frequent collaborator Saga Adeolu, previously stating that onscreen kisses are often purely technical and not necessarily enjoyable.
The discussion continues to highlight how actors navigate professionalism, boundaries, and realism while portraying romantic scenes in Nigerian films.
