Sarah Martins has called on organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards to give greater recognition to actor Yul Edochie, saying his work in Nollywood deserves award consideration.
The appeal came shortly after the 12th edition of the AMVCA held over the weekend in Lagos, which celebrated outstanding achievements in African film and television.
In a post shared on social media, Martins said that despite any personal differences she may have with Edochie, she acknowledges him as a talented performer with a strong body of work in the industry.
She congratulated all winners at the ceremony but maintained that Edochie’s contributions to Nollywood should not go unnoticed, describing him as one of the standout actors in the sector.
Martins added that her comments were based strictly on professional assessment rather than personal relationships, stressing that recognition should reflect artistic merit.
The actress wrote that there was “no hate zone,” while urging the AMVCA to do better in acknowledging deserving talents.
Her statement has since sparked discussions online about award recognition and perceived omissions in major industry ceremonies.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards remains one of Africa’s most prominent platforms for celebrating excellence in film, television, and digital storytelling.
