The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.
The commission announced the development on Saturday through a notice published on its official website, stating that the former minister is being sought in connection with ongoing corruption investigations.
According to the EFCC, Farouq, aged 52, is from Zamfara State, with her last known address listed in Maitama, Abuja. The agency urged members of the public with useful information about her whereabouts to come forward.
The notice, signed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, stated that the public should assist in locating the former minister, noting that she is wanted in an alleged case involving financial misconduct during her time in office.
The commission also provided multiple channels through which information could be shared, including its offices nationwide, a dedicated phone line, email contact, and nearby police stations.
Farouq served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development between 2019 and 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The EFCC has continued its investigations into financial activities within several government ministries as part of ongoing anti-corruption enforcement efforts.
