Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has urged Nigerian authorities to consider empowering citizens to defend themselves as insecurity continues to raise concern across the country.
The actress made her remarks in a post shared on her social media page on Tuesday, expressing frustration over recurring violent attacks and the growing sense of fear among residents in several parts of Nigeria.
Reacting to the situation, Kadiri called for urgent action, stating, “Give us power to defend ourselves.”
She said many Nigerians are increasingly feeling vulnerable as incidents of violence and insecurity persist, adding that the situation has left citizens without adequate protection.
Kadiri also emphasised that safety should not be viewed as a privilege but as a fundamental right that must be guaranteed by the state through stronger security measures and practical interventions.
Her comments quickly generated reactions online, with several users agreeing with her concerns and calling for improved government response to insecurity.
One user, @EmekaTalks, wrote that the actress had voiced what many Nigerians are afraid to say, noting that citizens are exhausted by the persistent fear.
Another user, @DebbieWrites, stressed that the government must prioritise securing lives and property, adding that citizens should not be left to plead for safety.
The conversation adds to ongoing national debates about security and the effectiveness of current measures in addressing violence across different regions of the country.
