Nigerian singer Ruger has responded to a TikTok user who wished him dead after criticising one of his songs.
The controversy began after the woman described Ruger’s song as “misogynistic and homophobic” in a video that has gained attention on TikTok.
In the video, she expressed her displeasure with the singer, saying in Pidgin English: “Ruger gats die na the only thing wey fit help my mental health.”
Ruger later shared the video on his X account, questioning whether he was expected to overlook the death wish.
“I think I get a pass for her wishing me dead,” the singer wrote.
He subsequently directed his response at the TikTok user, while also taking a swipe at her physical appearance and eating habits.
“So apologies to the feminists and body positivity activists. But this girl is worried about the wrong thing. Instead of her to be worried about her high intake of okpa. She is on the verge of getting a triple chin,” he added.
Ruger’s response has since sparked discussion online, with attention shifting from the woman’s criticism of his music to the exchange between both parties.
The singer has not indicated whether he intends to take any further action over the TikTok user’s comments.
