Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has commended Nigerian center-back Emmanuel Fernandez for demonstrating significant leadership qualities following a visible on-field disagreement with teammate Tochi Chukwuani. According to the manager, the high-tension exchange served as a catalyst for the squad’s spirited second-half revival, illustrating a burgeoning sense of accountability and maturity within the locker room.
The German strategist noted that the team’s locker room environment has evolved, with players now feeling empowered to take ownership of their collective performance. During the interval, Rohl prioritized a culture of transparency, urging his players to address their shortcomings directly—a strategy he believes paved the way for their subsequent recovery.
“We were honest to each other at half-time. I especially liked that the players were also honest with each other, which helps,” Rohl remarked, as reported by the Daily Record.
Beyond the emotional recalibration, the manager focused on restoring the group’s confidence while implementing critical strategic shifts.
“It was more important to give them my trust and make them believe in what we are doing,” he explained.
On a tactical level, the adjustments were specifically designed to neutralize the opposition’s direct offensive threats. Rohl identified that the team’s defensive line had been vulnerable to long-range deliveries, prompting a shift in their defensive engagement.
“The other part was about what we had to adjust. We changed our pressing a little bit. We allowed the opponent too many long balls in behind. It was better in the second half,” the coach concluded.
The successful implementation of these changes, combined with the players’ willingness to challenge one another constructively, has reinforced Rohl’s belief in the squad’s character as they continue their current campaign.
