Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has shared details about how he prepares mentally and physically before stepping on stage.
Speaking in an interview with Dazed during the Milan Fashion Week, the singer disclosed that his pre-performance ritual includes taking a little tequila, smoking a cigarette and saying a prayer.
Rema was in Milan where he walked the runway for Diesel, adding another fashion milestone to his growing global profile.
When asked about what he does before a show, the “Calm Down” hitmaker responded: “A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue.”
Beyond his personal routine, the artiste said he also conducts sound checks with his team to ensure all technical elements are properly aligned before going on stage.
Comparing music performances to runway appearances, Rema noted that performing live is far more demanding. According to him, concerts require strong breath control and constant energy to keep the audience engaged.
“Performing has a lot to do with your breathwork and you have to keep the crowd going,” he said.
On his current musical influences, the singer revealed that he has been listening to Sudanese cultural live music.
Rema also admitted that smoking cigarettes remains his “biggest vice,” a candid acknowledgment that has sparked conversation among fans online.
The Afrobeats star continues to expand his influence across music and fashion, balancing high-profile appearances with a demanding performance schedule.
