Marcus Rashford has thanked Barcelona after ending his short spell with the Spanish champions, with the England forward set to return to Manchester United ahead of pre-season preparations.
The 28-year-old appeared set to leave Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, following a period where he was considered surplus to requirements.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa before joining Barcelona on a temporary deal the following summer. Despite an impressive campaign, the Catalan club decided against activating their option to make the move permanent.
Barcelona’s decision was further influenced by the arrival of Anthony Gordon in a £70 million deal and the recent signing of Karim Adeyemi, reducing the chances of Rashford remaining at Camp Nou.
Reflecting on his time at Barcelona, Rashford shared a farewell message on Instagram.
“I am extremely thankful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and unforgettable experience.
“I have cherished every moment and will hold those special memories close to my heart. I wish the club and all the fans the best of luck and tremendous success this season. Visca el Barca!”
Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, are reportedly monitoring Rashford’s situation.
However, former Manchester United teammate Harry Maguire has backed the forward to revive his career at Old Trafford, saying he would be welcomed back and could thrive under manager Michael Carrick.
