Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has been affirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Katsina State in the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation took place on Thursday at the People’s Square, Government House, Katsina, through a consensus process that brought together party delegates from across the state.
A total of 2,872 delegates participated in the affirmation exercise, representing various structures of the APC in Katsina State.
The delegates comprised 918 from Local Government Executive Committees (27 from each of the 34 local government areas), 37 from the State Executive Committee, 109 statutory delegates, and 1,805 ward-level delegates (five from each of the 361 wards). Three additional delegates represented the National and Zonal Executive Committees.
Dr. Yakubu Ahmed Machido, Chairman of the APC Affirmation Committee, confirmed that the exercise was conducted in strict compliance with the APC Constitution and electoral guidelines.
He declared that Governor Radda was duly affirmed as the APC flagbearer for the forthcoming Katsina State governorship election.
Describing the process as transparent, credible and consistent with party guidelines, Machido said: “The affirmation process was conducted through a voice vote, which reflected overwhelming support for Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
“The outcome reflects the unity and collective resolve of APC members in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
Earlier, the state APC Chairman, Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, commended party stakeholders, including former Governors Ibrahim Shehu Shema and Aminu Bello Masari, for their contributions to the smooth conduct of the exercise.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the state APC consensus and reconciliation committee and former Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, thanked Almighty Allah for the successful and peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He urged the party to sustain achievements under Governor Radda’s administration while aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national leadership.
“We thank Almighty Allah for the peaceful outcome. The transparency that characterised this process in Katsina State is commendable,” Masari said.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Radda expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him.
“Four years ago, I was given the mandate to serve the people of Katsina State. Today, I am honoured with the nomination to contest for a second term under the APC,” he said.
He pledged renewed commitment to good governance, development and service delivery, reaffirming his support for the APC and confidence in the party’s victory in 2027.
