Police in Entebbe have launched investigations into the disappearance of a primary six pupil from St Savio Junior Kisubi primary school.
The missing learner has been identified as 12-year-old Victor Katungi, who reportedly vanished from the school on Thursday night during prep time. According to preliminary findings, Katungi was sent out of class at around 9 p.m. by his science teacher, Emmanuel Agaba, to collect his original paper after being accused of forging marks. He did not return.
Detectives from Kisubi police post visited the school on Monday, reviewed CCTV footage and questioned the administration over how the pupil disappeared from a facility said to have adequate security.
Police have also raised concern over the delayed reporting of the incident, noting that the matter only came to their attention after the family filed a complaint. Katungi’s father, Patrick Katungi, said he received a phone call that night and rushed to the school at around midnight.
A search was conducted across the compound and classrooms, but the pupil was not found.
“What disturbs us is that the child was sent out of class, and no one followed up. We are told he jumped the fence, yet there were guards and cameras. No one can explain how my child disappeared,” he said.
CCTV footage reviewed by police reportedly shows the pupil leaving the classroom and disappearing behind a classroom block, but does not capture how he exited the premises.
Additional footage is said to show a confrontation between Katungi and his teacher earlier that evening, which the family believes may have contributed to the incident. The Entebbe Division police commander, Moses Musinguzi Karakire, has directed the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) team at Kisubi to record statements from school administrators before any arrests are made.
