British broadcaster Piers Morgan believes Jude Bellingham, not Lionel Messi, will be the biggest danger in Wednesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina in Atlanta.
Bellingham has starred in England’s knockout campaign, scoring braces in back-to-back matches to help the Three Lions reach their fourth World Cup semi-final and second in the last three editions. The Real Madrid midfielder scored twice in England’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in the quarter-finals, becoming the first player since Diego Maradona in 1986 to score braces in consecutive World Cup knockout games.
“All this fearful talk of ‘how will England stop Messi’ is ludicrous. The much more pertinent question is how will Argentina stop Bellingham? He’s the real superstar of this World Cup.”
Bellingham has scored six goals in six matches and sits joint fourth in the Golden Boot standings alongside England captain Harry Kane. The pair trail Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi by two goals and Norway’s Erling Haaland by one.
