Singer Peter Okoye has alleged that his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, has initiated a fresh legal action aimed at preventing him from performing songs released under the Psquare brand.
Peter made the claim in a video shared on his official social media pages while responding to comments previously made by Jude over the ownership of Psquare and the group’s ongoing business disagreements.
According to the singer, the latest legal action is separate from the existing case involving Northside Music and government authorities, stressing that his role in that matter is only that of a witness.
“Jude served me a letter. We just had the hearing recently. During the hearing, the first thing they wanted to do was stop me from performing Psquare songs,” Peter said.
He further alleged that during the court proceedings, Jude—supported by his twin brother, Paul Okoye—sought an order restraining him from performing songs associated with the defunct music duo.
Peter also disputed Jude’s reported claim that he was responsible for bringing Psquare to Lagos in 2005, arguing that the group had already established its career before then.
“In Jude’s claim, you said you brought Psquare to Lagos in 2005, so automatically that makes you the owner of Psquare. Psquare’s first album came out in 2003. We’ve been singing for four to five years before that and even signed our first management contract. Where were you then?” he said.
The singer went on to claim that Jude was still in school during the group’s early years and maintained that the account being presented in court does not reflect the history of Psquare’s rise.
“You said you brought us to Lagos. Jude, we brought you to Lagos. I sold my car and paid for our first house. I still have the receipts. You and Paul ran away when there was nothing. I stayed back. Now, all of a sudden, you own Psquare,” Peter alleged.
The latest claims add another chapter to the long-running dispute involving the Okoye brothers over the ownership of the Psquare brand, music royalties and other business interests.
As of the time of filing this report, Jude Okoye had not publicly responded to Peter’s latest allegations regarding the reported court action.
