The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports claiming it failed to submit the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline, insisting it complied fully with the electoral timetable.
The party was reacting to a publication alleging that the PDP was among three political parties that failed to upload their presidential tickets before INEC closed its nomination portal.
In a statement, the PDP described the report as false and misleading, saying it failed to uphold the fundamental principles of accuracy, fairness and verification expected in journalism.
A party spokesperson, Jungudo, said the publication created a false impression about the PDP’s compliance with the electoral process.
According to him, “Journalism demands accuracy, fairness and verification. Unfortunately, these basic principles were ignored in the publication, resulting in the dissemination of false information capable of misleading the public and creating an erroneous impression about the PDP’s compliance with the electoral process},
The PDP called on the newspaper to immediately retract the report, publish a correction and issue a public apology.
The party also demanded that its rebuttal be given the same prominence as the original publication, describing the move as necessary in the interest of fairness, professionalism and responsible journalism.
