Following a violent assault on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo Ekiti, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged residents of border areas to remain alert and support security agencies.
The attack, which occurred in the border community linking Ekiti and Kwara States, left a pastor dead and about 16 worshippers abducted, sparking fresh security concerns in the area.
Speaking during a sympathy visit on Sunday, the governor, represented by his deputy, Monisade Afuye, assured residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the victims.
He said security agencies had already intensified surveillance and launched coordinated operations aimed at tracking down the attackers and rescuing those kidnapped.
Oyebanji expressed sadness over the incident and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also warned against internal collaboration with criminal elements, noting that such actions were worsening insecurity in border communities.
According to him, “Internal collusion with criminals is fuelling the invasion of the community. Those involved must desist in the interest of peace and security.”
The governor further advised residents to suspend night activities, including vigils, and conduct religious gatherings during the day as a temporary safety measure.
Traditional ruler of the community, Oba Julius Awolola, described the incident as devastating and called for stronger security deployment in the area.
Community leaders also appealed for the urgent completion of a police post and the establishment of a military base to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
