Fresh military operations across Nigeria have led to the rescue of more than 40 kidnapped victims and the arrest of over 20 suspected terrorists, collaborators and other criminal elements.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the gains were recorded between July 10 and 16 by troops operating under different military commands.
He said Operations Hadin Kai, Fansan Yamma, Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace, Whirl Stroke, Delta Safe and Udo Ka, in collaboration with other security agencies, also neutralised several terrorists and disrupted criminal networks.
In the North-East, Onoja said troops intensified pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, resulting in the arrest of suspected logistics suppliers and collaborators, the rescue of abductees and the surrender of some terrorist family members. He added that troops prevented infiltration attempts in Borno State and arrested a suspected foreign spy.
In the North-West, he said troops rescued 14 kidnapped victims, arrested terrorist collaborators and recovered weapons and vehicles during operations in Zamfara and Kebbi states.
The defence spokesman said troops across other regions also rescued victims, arrested suspects, recovered arms and destroyed illegal oil refining sites linked to criminal activities.
He added that troops rescued a school principal, a NECO official and two students abducted from an examination centre in Kogi State. Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, praised the troops for their commitment and urged Nigerians to continue providing security agencies with credible information.
He assured that ongoing operations would be sustained until peace and stability are restored across the country.
