A security screening by troops of Operation HADIN KAI has cleared a Niger Republic resident previously suspected of terrorism, with investigations confirming he has no affiliation with any known terrorist group.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday while clarifying reports surrounding an individual intercepted by troops of 68 Battalion after the Cross Kauwa attack.
The individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was taken into custody for profiling due to concerns over the movement of terrorist elements through border communities.
According to the military, extensive intelligence assessments and investigative procedures found no evidence linking Zein-Nur to any terrorist organisation.
Goni said findings revealed that Zein-Nur is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Niger Republic, where he works as a camel rearer beyond the River Komadougou.
Operation HADIN KAI said the development highlights its commitment to distinguishing innocent civilians from criminal elements during security operations.
The military added that all intercepted persons are subjected to due process and proper security checks, while reaffirming its determination to sustain counter-terrorism operations in line with human rights standards and the rule of law.
